All of the trailer images unlocked from this morning’s viral marketing campaign have been edited together by fans into a GIF that essentially shows the full 3rd trailer for The Dark Knight Rises. Extremely small and without sound, the animated GIF is spreading around the internet, and exciting fans who simply cannot wait until Thursday night to watch it in the theater with The Avengers. Not exactly the way I’d recommend viewing the trailer, but if you need to scratch the itch, head over to N-SB.org to check it out!

tdkr viral trailer The Dark Knight Rises Viral Campaign Expands

The viral marketing campaign for The Dark Knight Rises resurrected itself via the official website early this morning. On the website, a series of scanned documents from a police report on the anonymous vigilante known as the Batman seem to be leading fans on a hunt to find evidence of him. A list of previous “Batman sighting” locations have been listed on the website, which asks for citizens take photographic evidence at those locations and submit them via twitter using the hashtag #tdkr70202012 or by emailing tdkr70202012@gothamcitypolice.com.

At the end of police report, the site directs you to another website, tdkr07202012.com, which hints at our reward for sending in photographic evidence: frames/images from the upcoming trailer. And so the hunt begins! A new trailer awaits us with The Avengers on May 4th, and surely another poster is lurking in the shadows. The adventure until then seems like it just got a whole lot more interesting. Head over to the official website to see it all for yourself, and to see if there are any “sighting” locations close to you!

According to the WB Exhibitor site, the third trailer for The Dark Knight Rises will be attached to Marvel’s The Avengers on May 4th. Both 2D and 3D conventional showings of The Avengers  (as well as 2D and 3D IMAX showings!) will be playing the trailer. This isn’t the first time WB has placed a beloved DC Comics trailer in front of a Marvel movie. Back in 2008, the third trailer for The Dark Knight played before showings of Iron Man. And in 2010, the final trailer for Nolan’s Inception played in front of Iron Man 2.

The Dark Knight Rises On The Cover Of EW

UPDATE (4.12.12): We’ve added the six photos from the Entertainment Weekly article to our story gallery below via Batman-News.

Entertainment Weekly‘s Summer Movie Preview issue is about to hit shelves, and gracing the cover is none-other-than The Dark Knight Rises. The cover photo is that off Christian Bale as Batman and Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle – aka Catwoman. Expect a write-up on the inside of the issue as well, but don’t expect too much. Nolan is as reluctant as ever. “So what can I not tell you about my film,” he told the magazine while on break from editing the much anticipated film.

Even so, Nolan did expand upon our first preview of Rises and shared some intel about Batman’s latest cinematic adversaries. First, there’s Bane (played by Inception alum Tom Hardy), a cunning, hulking terrorist with a menacing respirator-mask and a small army bent on sacking Gotham City. “He represents formidable physical strength, combined with absolute evil of intention,” says Nolan.

Hardy also jumps in the mix and gives some of his thoughts regarding his character’s voice, saying, “It’s a risk, because we could be laughed at — or it could be very fresh and exciting.” He also adds, “The audience mustn’t be too concerned about the mumbly voice. As the film progresses, I think you’ll be able to tune to its setting.”
