We finally have a peak at what Warner Bros.’ plans are for a Blu-ray / DVD release of Christopher Nolan’s most recent film, Inception.

Play.com was the first to make this new limited edition Inception Blu-ray case available for pre-order and Amazon.co.uk quickly followed. Unfortunately for most of us, this is only available in the UK for now. Although, I’m sure that our UK visitors will enjoy this post even if they only make up 9% of our user base.

The limited edition Inception Blu-ray pack includes a Dream Machine-like mini briefcase, a spinning top, the PASIV device manual, the two prologue comics (Inception: The Cobol Job and Inception: The Big Under), Triple Play Edition (Blu-ray, DVD, and a Digital Copy), and a photo gallery.

FXGuide.com recently did a really nice feature on some of the visual effects in this summer’s most talked about film, Inception.  They recorded an in-depth podcast with the vfx supervisor on Inception, Paul Franklin of the acclaimed visual effects house Double Negative. They also have a fascinating write up on the miniature effects featured in the film done by Ian Hunter and his team at New Deal Studios. Both Franklin and Hunter talk about the attention of detail in going into making this film’s visual effects as realistic as possible. Whether it be filming 1/6 scale miniatures at 72 frames per second, or coordinating with the costume department during the wire-work to help conceal gravity direction, both of the teams at New Deal Studios and Double Negative had their work cut out for them when it came to selling the visual effects in Inception.

After a solid fifth weekend in North America and its third consecutive weekend atop the box office overseas, Inception became the sixth film of 2010 to cross the $500 million mark worldwide. Falling 39%, Inception ended its fifth North American weekend at #4 with $11,285,051. That three-day brought Inception’s domestic total to an impressive $248,469,482, and the sci-fi thriller should finish off somewhere around $290 million. Inception will not face much new competition over the next few weeks, so drops closer to (or even lower than) its earlier weekends are expected. An August 27th re-release for Avatar (with nine additional minutes) is the wild card, but currently set for only 750 theaters.

Foreign receipts dropped just 24.9% in 59 markets for a $35.9 million weekend, bringing Inception’s overseas total to $315.4 million. Inception put up the strongest numbers in Spain, with a second straight weekend at #1 for $2.9 million. The United Kingdom remains Inception’s largest foreign market at $44.7 million, with strong numbers in South Korea, Japan, and France following. $563.9 million is Inception’s worldwide tally after a month in theaters. After three straight weekends atop the box office, Inception‘s streak was ended by Adam McKay’s The Other Guys (opening with over $35.5 million). Slipping to #2, Inception still managed another impressive drop (32.7%) and drew $18.5 million worth of tickets in its fourth weekend. Inception’s North American total now stands at $227.6 million after 24 days, on track for a domestic run ending around $300 million. A big test of that potential landmark will arrive this coming weekend, as Inception must contend with three new wide releases: The Expendables, Eat Pray Love, and Scott Pilgrim vs. The World. Amidst growing competition and a dropping theater count, Inception will need to pull at least $12 million in its fifth weekend to keep alive the $300 million domestic trajectory.

Foreign totals for Inception have now exceeded $251 million, bringing the worldwide total to $478.8 million. The United Kingdom and South Korea are currently the film’s second and third strongest markets, with $41 million and $25.7 million respectively. This past weekend saw openings in Spain ($4.5 million) and Brazil ($2 million). Remaining releases for Inception include Venezuela (August 13), Greece (August 24), China (September 2), and Italy (September 24). What did you see this past weekend? The preface of INCEPTION: The Shooting Script contains an amazing 10-page interview with writer-director Christopher Nolan. Interviewed by his brother, author and screenwriter, Jonathan Nolan, the two delve into the story behind the genesis of the idea for the for film and the decade-long process it took to write it.

Christopher Nolan became fascinated by the idea that the human mind can play tricks with itself. “My interest in dreams came from this notion of realizing that when you dream you create the world that you are perceiving, and I thought that feedback loop was pretty amazing.” Mr. Nolan recalls a time in college where he was enjoying a mid-day siesta. “I remember having a dream and saying to myself, ‘Okay, there’s a bunch of books on the shelf. If I pull a book off the shelf and look at it, can I read the words in the book?’ And I could, because your brain is making up the words in the book.”

Always interested in making a heist film about corporate espionage, Christopher Nolan continued toying with the idea of a film involving dreams. Once he imagined combining the two, Inception started to become a reality.

After I finish every film, I look at what I might do next. I would get the draft of Inception out and would read it, again. I would show it to Emma [Emma Thomas] and sometimes show you [Jonathan Nolan] to get more thoughts on it. But I never knew quite how to finish it until I realized that the antagonist of the film should be the guy’s wife.

It completely unlocked the end of the film. It completely unlocked how you could make something that a wider audience might care about. Because to me, whenever you deal in the world of esoteric or overly complex science fiction, or heist movies, or film noir, you’re working for a smaller audience. If you’re going to do a massive movie, though, you’ve got to be able to unlock that more universal experience for yourself as well as for the audience. That’s what it took for me. As soon as I realized that Mal would be his wife, it became completely relatable.

Being that Inception is purely Christopher Nolan’s work, having written the entire screenplay himself, he continues on to discuss self-doubt during the production and his tricks for keeping a level head. The two continue further discussing the challenges and rewards in working with Inception’s stellar cast on such a grand-scale actioner.

Laced throughout this book (and the script) are inserts of some crazy Inception concept art along with hand-written notes, story outlines, and sketches made by Christopher Nolan during the development phase of this project. If you’ve fallen in love with Christopher Nolan’s (possibly greatest) film like the rest of us, INCEPTION: The Shooting Script is definitely worth checking out.

For the 3rd week in a row now, Christopher Nolan’s Inception has stolen the number one spot at the weekend box office. Pulling in an impressive $27.5 million over the weekend, the sci-fi thriller managed to beat out new-comer Dinner for Schmucks, which earned a decent $23.5 million. With only a 35% drop-off from the previous week, Inception is proving to have longer legs than your run-of-the-mill summer action movie. Positive word-of-mouth and a still prominent media campaign is pushing the film closer and closer to the $200 million mark. And with a US total of $193.3 million, it’s not far off!

Even more impressively, Inception‘s worldwide tally is racing towards the $400 million mark with an estimated $364 million in total. How many times have you seen Inception in theaters?

Inception racked up an impressive $42.7 million this weekend, dropping just 32% from its $62.3 million opening according to Box Office Mojo. That strong hold (the smallest second weekend drop so far this year) was enough to top Angelina Jolie’s Salt, a close #2 with a solid $36 million weekend. Inception‘s domestic total now stands at $142.8 million, just shy of the reported $160 million production cost. The film should pass $200 million next week, and Dan Fellman, head of distribution at Warner Bros, thinks Inception “has a good shot at topping $300 million.”

Foreign tallies for Inception have reached an estimated $84 million, bringing the worldwide gross to $226.9 million after 10 days.

Box Office Mojo is reporting that Thursday’s estimate in the box office was enough to push Christopher Nolan‘s latest film, Inception, beyond the $100 million mark. It certainly is an astonishing feat to break the $100 million barrier in seven days for a film that is neither a sequel nor a remake.

Christopher Nolan’s seventh feature film raked in $62,785,337 at the box office during its opening weekend and will begin opening wide releases in more countries soon. Yesterday, Inception entered theaters all across Europe and today marks the opening for Mexico and Japan.

At the time of writing, Inception still remains the #1 movie in America for its seventh consecutive day.

FirstShowing.net is reporting they have a “reliable inside source” with a studio casting grid that has The Riddler listed as the villian for Batman 3. With this year’s San Diego Comic Con starting up this week, many have been suspecting some sort of announcement regarding the much anticipated follow-up to 2008′s The Dark Knight. Rumors surrounding this project have been absolutely bonkers in the past, but FirstShowing is saying “this news should be considered confirmation that The Riddler is the villain” in Batman 3. They’re also saying that the actor currently listed on that same casting grid is none other than Inception‘s Joseph Gordon-Levitt. He is listed as “interested” next to The Riddler, despite the age listed for the mysterious villian being 35-45. Joe is only 29 by the way. So how accurate could this all be? They want to keep the JGL part listed a rumor, but The Riddler part as confirmed.
