John David Washington has been selected by Christopher Nolan to lead the director’s upcoming event film, according to Variety. Washington is known for his roles in the HBO series Ballers, and Spike Lee’s BlacKkKlansman, for which Washington earned Golden Globe, SAG, People’s Choice, and NAACP Image Award nominations. Leave it to Nolan to surprise us with fresh, left field casting that excites.

Rumors once pointed at the film being a romantic thriller in the vein of Hitchcock’s North by Northwest, but Warner Bros. has stated such reports are inaccurate. Variety and EW now have sources stating the film is “a massive, innovative, action blockbuster,” but who is that surprising in all honesty?

Production on the project is said to begin this June, which leads us to believe that production and casting news will start ramping up soon.
