I saw two interesting articles this week. One in the Independent which suggests argues against Nolan being a right-wing director and another in the New Stateman which proudly labels Nolan 'the last Tory' director in Hollywood.
In the film, Nolan's portrayal of the complex political and moral landscape surrounding Oppenheimer's involvement in the development of the atomic bomb suggests that he is not a Tory but leans more towards a liberal perspective. Nolan approaches the subject matter with a nuanced and critical lens, delving into the ethical dilemmas and personal struggles faced by Oppenheimer and his team. The film explores themes of power, responsibility, and the consequences of scientific advancement, hinting at a progressive stance that questions the unchecked authority often associated with conservative ideologies. By delving into Oppenheimer's connections with communism and his later persecution during the McCarthy era, Nolan seems to emphasize the importance of individual freedoms and civil liberties, aligning with liberal values.
Nolan's cynaism around the super rich and freeports, etc in Tenet suggested a liberal conscience, but that film eschews politics. Oppenheimer in many respects is in conversation with Dunkirk (arguably his most right-wing film) and offers an interesting debate on patriotism.
I know people, that could "accuse" Nolan of being a right winger, just by standing more by Oppenheimer side.
I just want to point out the siliness of this.
It definitely stays more on liberal side, BUT:
I'm a more conservative guy, and I think this movie is pretty nuanced. Even McCarthy "persona" wasn't as much attacked, as it could've been.
No, his comments outside of his work have already told us that. People can interpret the movies however they want. He and Emma Thomas also have only made political contributions to Obama and Gavin Newsom.

I'd argue they're not that much left wing. Only Sanders really wants to attack finance and change the economy radically. It's not because the republicans have turned to the far right that the democrats have become socialists. Clinton remains one of the president that pushed most to diminish laws around the big banks.
America is so crazy, like being against the right for people to carry rifles doesn't make you left wing, it makes you empathetic, and able to read reports about the difference between the number of school attacks between the US and democracies that control guns.

I'm also conservative and I think Nolan is a classic English conservative mostly compared to the rest of HollyWokeWood.
