I have a feeling Erik Davis managed to watch the film last week when they were showing it to journalists doing the press junket interviews.

He updated his predictions on Friday. Not putting much weight into it as he usually likes everything, but I thought it was worth mentioning it.

Even if he does like everything, I do believe he is pretty knowledgeable about the film industry and how things are going to be received because I’m sure he has a lot of connections with numerous critics and media outlets. I don’t think he’d put Oppenheimer over Killers of the Flower Moon in Best Picture rankings over just pure hyperbole reaction tweeting.

I wouldn't read too much into it, beyond another indication that the movie is probably not terrible!

Great find! One of the other critics on there, Tariq Khan, also updated his picks on July 7th and also has Oppenheimer and Nolan as #1 picks for picture and director. He and Erik are the only ones to update their picks on 7/7, the other folks were before that.

Interesting timing! :gonf:

If Erik Davis posts his reaction tomorrow after the social embargo lifts, we'll know we saw it last week.

Is there any way to check the history of updates? I know the expert predictions on GoldDerby opened up last week, so I would be hesitant to assume they’ve seen it unless they specifically updated from a prior prediction. It could just be their first prediction - they obviously haven’t seen all of the films on the list.

Woah, it sounds like Nolan's dramatizing the scene where William Borden, one of the folks against Oppenheimer in the early '50s, is piloting a plane and a V-2 zooms past him. That's a tiny passage in the book, and would have to be shown in flashback... just how much is Nolan putting in this film?
