we'll see

Blade Runner looks visually stunning, but we'll see how it serves the story

then again, recently the Academy has been going for photography porn (see: The Revenant)

But look at what Hoytema's done though. The dude took 70mm IMAX-cameras and put them on the wings and inside the cockpits of real Spitfires lol... Not to mention that he shot over 100 minutes in IMAX and that most of it was hand-held.

sure, but he's filming in a very "Nolan," realistic way

Denis and Deakins seem to be turning the stylization up to 100% which has done well with the Academy recently

i'm purely talking about who will win as opposed to who deserves to win

Deakins never won despite multiple nominations. And Hoytema was never even nominated. Seriously the Academy...

Hoyte aren't winning. Deakins is pulling a Lubezki and the Academy are easily wowed.

He should've won for Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy but he hasn't even received a nomination.

I remember being really pissed when he didn't get a nomination for Interstellar, he deserved it.

They both deserve it. This is like being asked to pick your favorite parent.

I mean, obviously it's Dunkirk  but still, the other parent tried so hard...
