Because the film starts with LIGO detecting gravitational waves from a collision of two black holes, the most violent event in the universe. Kip Thorne mentioned this in one of the videos I posted a few pages back. Nolly has also expressed his love for location shooting many times, but obviously I don't have any information other than that.

Edit: So it has been said, that video is from 2012, so Chirs might have re-written the whole thing. I don't know.
