Yeah, feels like something Werner Herzog would direct...With Willem Dafoe starring as Christian Bale playing The Batman.Awful title, not one person has ever expalained what "Shadow of the Bat" even means.

Well, if you want my reasoning...Eternalist wrote:Awful title, not one person has ever explained what "Shadow of the Bat" even means.antsman41 wrote:The Shadow of the Bat
As you know, Nolan's Batman titles represents the time period and the point where his Batman's character "is" when that title card shows up. Batman "Begins" his war on crime the second the escalation was starting and he had his first official Gordon/Bat-signal rooftop meeting. He then became "The Dark Knight" once he sacrificed his status as a hero to save Harvey's reputation.
So, that's why "The Shadow of the Bat" works so damn amazing. It presents to us a simple foreshadow past Nolan's trilogy, and sums up the the story-arc of all the Nolan Bat-films and tells us where Bats will be at the end of the film. Batman's redemption with Gotham will be what Batman3 is about and to follow Nolan's other two titles, naming it Batman Redemption and so forth is very dumb. The Shadow of the Bat has the feeling that Gotham will always be protected by the Batman and that his war on crime will never end. It is so fitting.
Just picture, when the film ends with Bats looking out over Gotham or whatever Nolan does that is a great send off and is akin to the that sweet Batman: War on Crime image of Bats looking standing on a gargoyle...
to black, BOOM! "The Shadow of the Bat"
It is just perfect...
TDK wasn't named Knightfall, not becasue of it wasn't the actual comic story but because the Batman 2 title wasn't suppose to be about the film itself. It was about the end of the film and the place the Batman character is at between Batman 2 (The Dark Knight) and Batman 3 (The Shadow of the Bat).
Anything like Knightfall, Dark Victory, etc... are lame. if TDK wasn't The Long Halloween or any of those others then those will never happen. Yes, the SOTB was a series that was really gritty and bad ass in the 90's, but it is also the last prestigious Batman nick name left. Caped Crusader is awesome when used in the right tense, but it has the whole 1960's cartoony-ness feel to it.
Ah, so it's Gotham that's in the "Shadow of the Bat". There's probably a better way to convey that.
Shadow of the Bat sounds so stupid.

The Dark Knight Returns is a good choice.
It doesn't flow (Batman Begins flows, The Dark Knight flows. Shadow of the Bat is long, tedious, and like point #2 makes no damn sense).antsman41 wrote:Why?chee wrote:Shadow of the Bat sounds so stupid.
Makes no sense (don't give me that Gotham is under the shadow of Batman crap, cause that don't make no sense either).
Doesn't sound like a Nolan title.
Tries to hard to be "poetic".
He's the BATMAN not the BAT.
He's Gotham's protector, not a blanket.
All that and it sounds stupid.
shadow of the bat : cartoonish ^
