The film was only released to just over 2k theaters...almost like a semi-wide release. Not sure why they decided on this method.
The reviews were very positive-near 90% on RT initially. However, after a few publications picked up on the Olivia Wilde character depiction, the reviews started turning negative dramatically.
WB was playing the long game at the box office for adults and seniors who don't rush out right away to the theater, but will have more time during the holiday season. But that initial opening is quite brutal.
Too bad this is doing poorly because from all accounts it's a good movie with one very questionable decision with Wilde's character. I do find it laughable that the Atlanta Journal Constitution is painting themselves as a victim in a movie about Richard Jewell.
