Well yeah, this is purely talking from a base to base perspective, like MCU fans can’t be cinephiles etc. What’s going on here is clear as a day - they want a bigger viewership numbers and they believe going shorter and more ‘popular’ will bring the goods. And what’s popular today? Fortnite and Thanos snap. Better mix those two in an opening ceremony.
That still won't give them viewership. Other than views on YouTube clips.

Don't know about 2020 rumor but Black Panther is just a symbol, people trying to figure out 'why', just like BP category was stretched to 5-10 spots due to TDK in 2009 (also most likely). 🕷
