Seems like Mendes might actually be stealing Marty and QT's thunders comes the awards season. Some are calling it the new front runner for BP.
If it's that good, it'll be an interesting race. Seems to scratch a lot of the academy's itches at the moment in terms of technical bravura Revenant/Birdman style, but without the intellectual chilliness of Dunkirk.Master Virgo wrote: ↑November 24th, 2019, 4:33 pmSeems like Mendes might actually be stealing Marty and QT's thunders comes the awards season. Because I love Irishman and Hollywood almost equally, I just defer to QT, who hasn't won best picture and it'd be "nice" if he did. Or director.

Astonishing that a director who has consistently been revered for nearly 30 years and has... what, one blip on his resume? turns out high-level work.
Who could have seen that coming.

I don't remember seeing many people saying this was going to be bad. People were just criticizing the marketing.
they’re doing a public same time as premiere IMAX screening of it in a week and a bit here and it has loads of seats available but tickets are £78 I know it’s meant to be for charity but fucking hell
WOW. Reactions for this are insane. Sounds like the lead actor may even be a serious player.
It has begun. Expect more of this shit.Kyle Buchanan @kylebuchanan
If 1917 wins Best Picture, Chris Nolan is gonna be pissed!! “You mean I got Harry Styles wet for nothing”
reactions sound great, but i'm unconvinced that it isn't more of a deakins being the GOAT hype than actual film hype
want to see the actual reviews to see what the substance to the spectacle (which indeed sounds spectacular) is.
