I always feel weird when Wachowski and Snyder movies get panned by critics and I end up enjoying them (well, minus Jupiter Ascending). But I guess there's always a weirdo or two that appeals to your senses? I GET why someone would watch their work and say wow, this was a hot mess, and they will never be god tier level directors simply because their ceiling is lower (like Zack said in that Yahoo interview: 'I don't know how else to give a hundred percent'), but looking at that RT score and some of the comparison screenshots with other infamous, completely trashy movies... is anyone truly thinking this deserves, what is it now, 31%? That's just miserable. 'The Room' (2003) is considered to be one of the worst movies ever... and it has 35%. How is that sensible? I am at loss of words, I've seen the movie twice now and it's problems are evident, only a blind man would say this is a flawless directorial work. But damn it all to hell, it's also a true love letter to DC fans and certainly NOT on the level those negative reviews are trying to put it. And when I say reviews... heh, what a joke that is. Most of them are written poorly, formulaic echo of a consensus. If you want to read something analytic and substantial you know who to listen and where to go, but those guys aren't loud enough, or popular enough, or top critic enough.
Waiting for Monday numbers right now. I've never cared for percentages before since I've never actually been in a situation where I truly cared for a so called 'rotten' movie, usually my interests are in the 'fresh' zone. But this whole experience made me rethink my usual ways and gave me a solid warning for the future. Trust your own senses and stick with them.

Lol sure. Let him have it though, I certainly don't care since we're molded differently anyway.
Well I just saw it and it's it's 24 PM where I live. I have to think about some stuff I saw. My opinion isn't fully formed and may change but the things that stuck me the most:Allstar wrote:didich, what did you think of the movie?
Affleck was a clear win, he felt like Batman the moment he stepped on the screen and his introductory scene. I was surprised about how much I liked Luthor (was skeptical), specially a spoilery scene he's got with Cavill at the top of LexCorp tower. Wonder Woman didn't have enough of a role or characterisation (she's got a nice action sequence though, liked how "warrior-like" her fighting style was*1) to do anything for me but Gadot is good enough, despite the criticism her casting took when announced. Cavill himself felt a bit out in this, though, I remember liking him more in MOS. Jeremy Irons is awesome. Perhaps my favorite character in the entire movie (it helps that he's the most level-headed).

I liked it because, well, I like these kinds of movies and, as I said, the characters and the way they're played, combined with the way it's presented (visually) onscreen is enough to see the movie. I don't think it deserves this punishment because, even if it fails quite a bit, the parts where it succeds hold more weight. It also promises much and I wouldn't want to miss it, but next time, they need to be more focused.
I think it's biggest sin is wanting to be a deconstruction of everything superheroe films are and straight-forward, light entertainment superhero extravaganza. By trying to be bothat the same time, it almost accomplished neither, but I give points for the effort. It may have seemed I've criticised a lot but the thing is, I do believe DC has the ingredients to make a great film that feels different and unique if it were a bit more focused. I think Marvel (and Fox's) movies can learn from this as much as this can learn from them.
I'd put it a hair above Man of Steel, right now, first time experience.
Relax man, I'm just kidding. I'm happy you loved the movie.
I'm still hoping I don't hate it. I can't stomach a terrible Batman movie.
