True. But still.

A side-by-side comparison between this version and the Favreau version (of the announced cast who have counterparts to the other production):

Shere Khan: Benedict Cumberbatch/Idris Elba
Baloo: Andy Serkis/Bill Murray
Bagheera: Christian Bale/Ben Kingsley
Mowgli: Rohan Chand/Neel Sethi
Kaa: Kate Blanchett/Scarlett Johansson
Akela: Peter Mullan/Giancarlo Esposito

That's some motherfucking big names. Well, not Mowgli, but the rest have a lot of recognizable actors there.

Wait, Serkis is going to be Baloo as well as directing? That's fantastic!

I'm not sure which version I'm more excited for. The casting of Bill Murray as Baloo was a stroke of genius, but this cast looks completely solid as well. This could be the first time that brother films (ala Snow White and the Huntsman/Mirror Mirror, Hercules/The Legend of Hercules) could actually co-exist respectfully.

I'm confused. Are both of these Jungle Book films live action?

Yes.

I did not realize these were a year apart, especially the fact that this releases in Oct 2016. This makes me sad.
