You can never truly appreciate a good film if you don't watch the 'shitty' ones and vice versa. At least that's what I think. Also you can't truly judge a film without seeing it, no matter what the mass critical reception is.
I've always viewed Alien and Aliens as equally good in terms of production value and overall quality. In terms of personal preference Aliens wins hands down for me. It just holds up better with repeat viewings IMO.
