Saito had a lock, Mal had a lock. The lock represents ones subject or marks inner secret. Plant something there, and it might stick in reality depending on depth and the subconscious aspects of the mark or subject in question etc. Yes lock really symbolizes secret which is being planted or extracted.

It is infact very easy to miss those scenes,when you are not a native english speaker (that is if you have a hard time understanding what they speak).
