It's honestly not that depressing of a film, overall. It's actually quite hopeful in a way. The narrative decisions that the director makes is what was so unexpected for me. It is an emotional journey, but I wouldn't classify it as depressing.

Haven't seen the film yet, going tomorrow. However, from the people I know who have seen it, they have really enjoyed it.

58% critics, 86% audience. Looks like it could be the opposite of TLJ--if it has enough "fan service" moments it will probably do well with the general audience, similar to Rogue One.
