Re: An interesting idea

Sounds fun! So how do we start? Or maybe you should make some rules before it starts just to make sure the game doesn't get too predictable or unfair?

Re: Your Favorite Stanley Kubrick film

1. 2001: A Space Oydessey - film at its best 2. Dr. Strangelove - poignant political satire 3. Paths of Glory - the best anti-war film ever made 4. Barry Lyndon - one of the most beautiful films ever made, with images reminiscent of the 18th century European paintings 5. Clockwork Orange - sharp pol...

Re: Wally Pfister wants Batman 3 ALL in IMAX

If Nolan were Kubrick then I'd say absolutely yes to this idea. But he's not, there were numerous scenes in his previous films (especially Inception & Batman films) where hand-held cameras were used to create more mobility, and uneasiness visually. If Nolan has to compromise his film in order to adv...

Re: Inception 2011 OSCARS POTENTIAL (will be updated constan

I'm pretty convinced that Nolan will at least be nominated for another DGA Best Director award by his fellow directors. He's already a two-time-nominee (for Memento & TDK) of what is considered to be the most prestigious award (not the Oscar) for a director and I highly doubt Inception won't get him...

Re: C.Nolan you must let people know.

No, Kubrick publicly stated that the film is about man's search for God. That's how Kubrick interprets his own work. There is no official interpretation of the central object/metaphor of 2001 - the monolith, in fact it is also publicly known as an alien device. Yes, it could mean God, but it still ...

Re: C.Nolan you must let people know.

The main difference between 2001 and Inception is that 2001 is a mystery , whereas Inception is a puzzle . 2001 is not a mind-game constructed for the sake of entertainment, the beauty of it is that there is no right or wrong way to interpret it. A religious person might say that the monolith repres...

Rank the Films of Steven Spielberg

We already have a David Fincher and Quentin Tarantino thread in the forum, so I thought it would be right to bring the versatile Spielberg into the conversation and have folks here rank his films.

Re: Besides Inception, list the Kubrickian film

It's very unfortunate that any well-crafted film nowadays is called "Kubrickian" by the ignorant public, as if artistry in filmmaking no longer matters compared to the mighty dollars. If that's the case, then distinctively different directors like Steven Spielberg, Robert Altman, Kar Wai Wong, & Sam...

Re: The Tree Of Life - December (hopefully)

Wow, honestly amazing it made it this far! I haven't seen any of Mailck's movies yet, any of you have a favorite(s) of his I should check out? All of his films deserve to be seen by any movie fan, they are all visually gorgeous and philosophically reflective. The Thin Red Line is his most accessibl...
