Re: Dunkirk General Information/Discussion

Now 12 hours removed from my viewing, I can feel that there was something indeed revelatory about the film. It's "haunting" in the truest definition of the word.

Re: Dunkirk Official Reviews Discussion

There are way too many 10/10 to call this a divisive movie. 2 out of 10 just can't accept or know that no character development is a plot point so you feel that you were there not gazing at character. When you are in the middle of chaos the intent was to deliver the feeling of chaos as if you were ...

Re: 'Dunkirk' Nolan Fans Member Reviews (NFometer)

10/10. In terms of the formal elements of film, the cinematography, production design, sound design, and editing... these are such orders of magnitude beyond any film that has come out this year. The innovation in approach to storytelling, the boldness of the vision, and the scale and spectacle dema...

Re: Dunkirk Official Reviews Discussion

More and more this appears to be the type of film that will be remembered for all time. And, considering Nolan's career arc, it augurs more great things to come.

Re: Interstellar Analysis: Christian Symbolism/Themes

Sweet, I saw that yesterday. The verbatim quote is: " I made the case for some feeling of religiosity, even though the film isn't religious, but that the organ, the architecture in cathedrals represent mankind's attempt to portray the mystical or the metaphysical, beyond the everyday." I find it qui...

Re: Interstellar Analysis: Christian Symbolism/Themes

One of the books on Murph's bookshelf is "A Wrinkle in Time" by Madeleine L’Engle Nolan says of the book: “My introduction to the idea of higher dimensions, including the notion of a tesseract.” This is noteworthy because: a) A Wrinkle in Time is a FANTASTIC novel and is one of the most successful c...

genloovers wrote:There's an interview out in which nolan says the movie is not at all religious. This thread is about as legitimate as someone creating a thread about the films pagan themes/symbolism. Or the movies Jewish themes/symbolism.

Re: Interstellar Analysis :Buddhist themes

don't forget Cooper's key realization that it was about Murph, rather than himself. A tenet of Buddhism is compassion, certainly the type of compassion that would exceed 'our own gaze,' as Dr. Mann might put it. Cooper goes to the boundaries of the universe, only to reach a point of stillness within...
