On twitter someone said that someone should ask the great directors currently working about Disney's decision to essentially move the Fox catalog into their vault forever instead of asking them about stupid superhero movies and I agree. I'd like to know what directors like Scorsese and Nolan have to say about that.

"Someone" is Matt Zoller Seitz, one of the most important critic in USA today, he's not just a random person on twitter.

Correction:
Ad Astra: a film better than anything Disney ever makes.

He's talking about financial performance, not quality. Obviously Ford v Ferrari is great and will probably break even in the end and Ad Astra is arguably really good.
But these films haven't really lit up the box office in any way which is a shame when it comes to those two films but quite predictable considering the state of cinema going audiences today.

is disney purposefully downplaying the fox films in terms of marketing and not allocating the resources to help these films do well?
Guessing to eventually shutter the Fox brand? It's been rumored that Disney is letting directors take a pick at what Fox films to remake and on top of that the reports of Disney putting Fox titles in the vault us troubling too.
Wondering how next year will look like.
They can do that without purposefully losing money on films with sunk costs.Artemis wrote: ↑December 17th, 2019, 8:14 pmGuessing to eventually shutter the Fox brand? I’ve heard a lot of conspiracy theories on why there have been so many box office failures lately. It’s simply because movie tickets are too expensive. If people go to the movies, it’s as a family, and it’s not every week, so it is going to be blockbusters of popular IP, i.e. Disney films.
Yes that is definitley a huge reason why. However I still wouldn't underestimate marketing. Recent examples is Knives Out which killed it on that front and now on it's way to getting over 5x its budget at the BO.
