Alright I went to the Irvine Spectrum IMAX screening of Tenet
My thoughts:
-The Regal looks really nice, I haven't gone there since Endgame IMAX showing.
-IMAX theater definitely felt a bit smaller, the seats were comfy, screen looks pretty much the same.
Just a heads up, bought my tickets on Fandango, and I thought I was getting middle seats because of the seat arrangements but for some reason they are only selling the right half side of the theater. Middle seat was #15 and I got #7 which was on the far right (luckily after the movie started I just ended up moving a little more towards the center since the line was almost empty
)
-There were <12 people, social distance was fine but half of them weren't wearing mask to my dismay
-Theater temp was ok, so wearing 2 mask didn't kill me, but given how long the movie was, It was definitely getting harder to breath (That's on me for trying not to breath a lot too
)
-Honestly the 1.90:1 ratio was pretty great and sharp. Plus it made the switching of ratios less noticeable imo (Halfway through the film and I thought the madlad filmed the whole thing in IMAX
).
-Audio. Yep this one is a bit of a mixbag. Soundtrack, Sound design and editing was amazing (Oscar worthy for sure) but it just was a bit too loud. The mixing is interesting. I probably heard 60-70% of the dialogue, I pretty much could not hear the dialogue in scenes where characters have things in their mouths like masks while the soundtrack is kicking in the background. But I "understood" the bare minimum of the film so it doesn't bother me all that much.
-Nolan did it again, the movie itself was great and very eye catching. Under different circumstance I would have seen it again tomorrow. I'm probably just going to wait for VOD or UHD BD release to watch it multiple times and properly understand the film but as of now it's a solid 8/10, maybe higher once I figure out some of the finer details
-Worth the risk? Look, I loved the movie but I hate maskless people in delicate environments like that one (Its Orange county so I get it). Luckily there weren't that many people and it was DEAD Quiet (which is how I like it). I say if you can find an almost empty screening, go for it.
Anyways, someone check on me in 2 weeks
