Waiting on that Jonny Greenwood confirmation.

He does most of his work from isolation/away from PTA anyway.

Focus and Anderson initially hoped to shoot the San Fernando Valley coming-of-age piece this summer.
Paul Thomas Anderson’s latest feature, an untitled coming-of-age drama set in the San Fernando Valley in the 1970s, is getting a new home.

MGM is in talks to pick up the project from Focus Features, the company that backed his last film, the Oscar-nominated drama, Phantom Thread, sources tell The Hollywood Reporter.

Focus landed the project in December 2019 with the hopes of shooting it in spring or summer 2020. The coronavirus pandemic has caused a ceasing of almost all productions, to the consternation of filmmakers and executives.

However, sources say the move isn’t stemming from Focus’ lack of desire to shoot but rather a budgetary issue, according to one source.

Focus was set to distribute domestically while Universal Pictures International was to handle global rollout.

Plot details are being kept secret but it involves multiple storylines surrounding one centering around a kid actor attending high school in the San Fernando Valley. The latter is the setting of some of Anderson’s most memorable films, including Boogie Nights, Magnolia, and Punch Drunk Love.

No cast has been set for the feature.

One of the first productions in Los Angeles to begin during the pandemic, in photos below snapped from the Encino set, one can see the first confirmed cast member Bradley Cooper, as well as the director, his crew, and even rumors that an unidentified HAIM sister has joined the ensemble. Postings from the set also confirm a rumor from a few months ago that the working title of the film is Soggy Bottom. (If one may recall, Phantom Thread was only the working title for his previous film, but PTA later said he couldn’t come up anything that fit better during post-production.)

Cooper Hoffman, the son of Oscar-winning actor Phillip Seymour Hoffman, is starring in Paul Thomas Anderson's untitled 1970s-set coming-of-age story.

Hoffman is playing the child actor at the center of the movie, which involves multiple storylines and is set in the San Fernando Valley. While the project will feature an ensemble of actors, including Bradley Cooper, Hoffman is the star of the film, with singer-songwriter Alana Haim.
