I was wondering why after the success of Lady Bird (an original film that she wrote and directed), she would decide to make an eighth adaptation of a book that already has a well-regarded 1994 adaptation, setting herself up for even higher expectations/judgment.

But she says in that Vanity Fair interview that the book is like an autobiography for her, so I guess it makes sense; this must be a dream project that she's been wanting to make her whole life or something.
