Chazelle is 2 for 2
He's actually made 3 films but I'm wondering if anyone around here has seen the first one? Super curious to see it, just not easy to get your hands on it 'round these parts.

Is it fair to say student films are "first films?" I'm not sure what the appropriate cut-off is.

I know but I haven't seen his first film so just counting the two that I've seen.

Anatomy of a Murder (1959)
One of the greatest trial movies ever made imo.

The Last Samurai

First time watching this in like 10 years. And wow. I was emotionally affected by the heart of this movie. It has definitely stood the test of time and even though the battle scenes are epic, what intriuges me the most are the conversations between Watanabe and Cruise. Watanabe is incredible in this.

And Zimmer's score is just breathtaking. Might be on my top 5 list of his best soundtracks.

9.5/10
