Well, since the film is very suitable for the typical blockbuster treatment, a prologue is very likely. If not, then an alternate IMAX trailer would take its place.
Trailer #1
I'm really curious what the organization of the (potential) IMAX prologue will be. Normally, the prologues get their own IMAX film prints and are IMAX 70mm exclusives. Because they are presented in film, theatres that show the prologues switch to their film projectors after the trailers, play the prologue, then switch back to digital projectors for the actual movie. Ultimately, this really helped whichever of Nolan's movies had prologues because the house lights turned all the way off, and the prologue got undivided attention before the actual movies would play. It also allowed those prologues to be a huge topic of discussion and fresh in people's minds. Now, there's a lot of hoopla about the "Avengers: Doomsday" trailer and since both "Avatar 3" and "Doomsday" are Disney properties, I don't see anything stopping them from burning the trailer into Avatar 3's DCP file (similar to what Universal/Nolan did for Oppenheimer teaser /Nope and Odyssey teaser/Jurassic World Rebirth. Disney did end up burning in the teaser for Avatar 3 into "Fantastic Four: First Steps's" DCP. This is mainly me thinking out loud about how everything will be ordered. It'll be annoying going from all trailers, to the Odyssey prologue, to the Doomsday trailer, then finally Avatar 3 and I don't see a world where Disney won't allow the Doomsday trailer to be the BIG pre-show showstopper.

Whatever the hype of Doomsday, I think the sheer power of the prologue will blow it out the water.
People responded to the big practical elements of Tenet and when Trinity went off in Oppenheimer... this might be the same.

plus, i think we are fully in on the "capeshit fatigue" era, and good sword and sandals has been missing from our theaters for decades.

Sword and sandals were popular in the 2000s but I feel like Sir Ridley is the only one who kept the genre alive even when people stopped making them. Someone like Nolan tackling said genre might give it this punch it needs.Nicolaslabra wrote: ↑November 10th, 2025, 11:50 pmplus, i think we are fully in on the "capeshit fatigue" era, and good sword and sandals has been missing from our theaters for decades.
Plus, there's obviously more hype for The Odyssey than the next Avengers, let's be honest.

I'm thinking about a full trailer on December 19, which is the day Avatar: Fire & Ashes debuts, going online at night or in the morning of December 20. Not so sure about an IMAX prologue. I don't remember Oppenheimer having one, just that they released that 'Opening Look' on YouTube a week prior to release - which serves as a prologue.
Oppenheimer had an exclusive IMAX trailer in December 2019 that has since been posted online.ulysses wrote: ↑November 12th, 2025, 9:02 amI'm thinking about a full trailer on December 19, which is the day Avatar: Fire & Ashes debuts, going online at night or in the morning of December 20. TDK, TDKR, Dunkirk, and Tenet all had extended 6-7 minute long prologues, although Dunkirk's was weird and wasn't really a "prologue".ulysses wrote: ↑November 12th, 2025, 9:02 amI'm thinking about a full trailer on December 19, which is the day Avatar: Fire & Ashes debuts, going online at night or in the morning of December 20. Oppenheimer had an alternate exclusive IMAX trailer. The Opening Look isn't really a prologue and is more a final trailer.
I don't think it's a coincidence that the Empire reporter said Nolan showed him 6 minutes of footage from the film.
Yea probably will be what Avatar might get in IMAX next month.Bacon wrote: ↑November 13th, 2025, 1:34 pmTDK, TDKR, Dunkirk, and Tenet all had extended 6-7 minute long prologues, although Dunkirk's was weird and wasn't really a "prologue".ulysses wrote: ↑November 12th, 2025, 9:02 amI'm thinking about a full trailer on December 19, which is the day Avatar: Fire & Ashes debuts, going online at night or in the morning of December 20. I'm becoming more and more convinced we're getting the trailer with Wicked, especially after today's Empire articles
