Speculation on what will be adapted/changed?

I'm soon going to read The Odyssey, but I've done research on it and what does stick out to me, beyond the length, is that despite being an archetypical hero's journey it's very episodically structured. In that sense, it'll make for a perhaps jumpy structure for one film, especially since it'll be also balanced with what's going on at home with Penelope and Telemachus plus the suitors. Not to mention, the lengthy epilogue where he's disguised as a beggar and finally comes back.

Now Interstellar gives me belief that this narrative can be pulled off since it's not too dissimilar. Man leaves his family, his family changes and deals with their own circumstances at home over decades, man is on an incredibly important quest where the final result will be being able to return home to his family (same with Inception). Plus there's been similar movies that copied this structure at least broadly, like Valhalla Rising.

It also appears to be a very gruelling and cynical story. No doubt it'll be R rated, but it's also a narrative where bad situations happen because characters (especially the crew) act unintelligently, where the gods put Odysseus through over decade of torment, where Odysseus is essentially forced to be sex slave on two separate occasions (one of them lasting 7 years!), where Odysseus massacres the suitors and the women who might not have willingly assisted them, where the crew are turned into pigs to be eaten, where Odysseus's wife is forced to horde off lots of men trying to sleep with her for a decade, amongst other things.

Given the big release of the film and trying to do it all in one go, it wouldn't surprise me if certain sections are cut or trimmed for time. But given the power Academy Award Winner Sir Christopher Nolan has, it wouldn't surprise me if he was given carte blanche to make the most unconventional and expensive R rated historical fantasy epic of all time.

But this would be an interesting topic of discussion that should have sentiments from those actually who've read the story, not to mention it's a piece of speculation that can continue with the advertisements we'll get.

So I'm wondering what you think will be kept and what will be changed.

Gotta have the Cyclops, Circe, Sirens, Scylla (Sea Monster), likely Calypso. Decent amount of time with Telemachus fighting the suitors at the end.
Also, like others have said, I think the movie will start with the Trojan Horse based on set construction we have seen in Morocco

Hope we also get the giant and the journey through hell.
Nausicaa and Telemachus's journey are first on the list of stuff to cut for me.

Too much of a sidequest?

Oh man, of all the things.

I need to see Nolan’s visual interpretation of Hell.

Well, Telemachus's journey outside Ithacus is basically talking with people while Odysseus's journey is meeting Giants, cyclops and witches... So it's easy to guess which one is most interesting.
As for Nausicaa, it's mostly interesting for the structure of the story in the book, but I think we all expect Nolan to bring his own original approach to structuring the story.
