It would be cool to get some insight on potential production locales for The Odyssey - we saw Chris and Emma in Venice in spring/summer 2024 - potentially scouting (or just on vacay, who knows...)
Anyway, as information comes available, would be great to track.
Assuming Nolan's desire for accuracy, I'd say he will be filming in locations where the poem is supposed to take place. Places like Turkey, Ionian Islands off of Greece, and other locales throughout the Mediterranean. Malta is always a good bet for epics like this because they give good tax breaks.
Game of Thrones shot a bit of the pilot in Malta. Then shot a lot in Croatia and Spain. Tenet was partially shot in Southern Italy.
I suppose some of it will be shot in Greece.
However Universal stated the film will be shot around the world so I'm guessing they will shoot part in the Mediterranean sea and part elsewhere. I think Australia or the coast of South Africa can look mediterranean (and of course California where Nolan always finishes shooting his films).
Some Indonesian islands could be great places too, have that equatorial feel you may want for Circe. The islands in the south of Chile look a bit less mediterranean but they can be a mix between the mediterranean climate and the mysterious feel of Fjord, since Norway or New Zealand wouldn't look mediterranean at all.
When hearing the title I immediatlex thought of Malta. It would be fitting geographical. They shot Gladiator there and I think also Troy movie?
What I myself would find interesting is, if they shoot around the "Lipari Islands". They are Italian just North of Sicily and also known as "The Aeolian" Islands, because it is rumored that they might be the mythological islands of the wind god himself.
I was there for holidays around 2 years ago and the (rahter small) islands are very scenic!!! And each of those islands has a different character. One is more hilly grassland and pleasent, another more woodland, the other steep, one has constantly vaporing foul smelling gas from the ground. One is the still active Stromboli volcano and you can sometimes hear the rumbling of the Volcano down in the small harbuor village, especially at night when everything is quiet - eerie.
But film shooting around those islands would be difficult, because there is a reason they are known to be the islands of the wind gods! The weather is unpredictable there. And i think they are protected as Unesco Heritage Site, so probably a no for filming huge set pieces there.
As much as the story is set in the Mediterranean, I would love to see them go there but also some other locations that are a bit more extreme, and - in that sort of Mediterranean context - somewhat fantastical, such as the rugged island of Scotland, or even something as extreme as Iceland, or maybe South East Asia.

A bit disappoointing if he doesn't go to Greece at all. I suppose he didn't get a tax credit there.
I guess Morocco is there because it's mediterranean and cheap. You always need a place that is cheaper where you can shoot all the stuff you couldn't shoot elsewhere. They got big tax credit from New Mexico for Oppenheimer and Estonia for Tenet. And therefore shot lots of scenes there, in addition to those supposed to take place there.
That said, as you say, let's remain cautious of the source. Especially when the source says that the Odyssey takes place 800 BC. (that's when Homer told the poem but the story would have had taken place more around 1200 BC.)
