This is a minor issue, but the Lawerence character is established in the opening 3rd of the film as keenly aware and proactive re: The issue of anyone having Communist associations while being involved with the Manhattan project -- Highlighted by the great scene between Lawerence and Oppenheimer.

Cut ahead to the middle 3rd of the film in Los Alamos, and Lawerence appoints known Communist Lomanitz as his liaison. It's an obvious character contradiction.
Just focusing on what the film shows and ignoring history, at the end of that first scene between Lawrence and Oppenheimer, the latter explicitly says he’ll talk to Lomanitz about backing away from those left-wing associations. Presumably then, by the time Lomanitz is appointed as liaison, he’s convinced Lawrence that he’s done so, as Oppenheimer had (and during the GAC meeting scene, Oppie specifically points out that Lomanitz had left the communist party by that time).
