Ouch. Michael Phillips has been generally positive about Nolan's work, so that's sort of telling that he only gave it 2 stars. Richard Roeper also gave it 3.5/4, which is obviously quite positive, but he's given almost every Nolan movie 4/4 stars.

I am astounded that critics are being as kind as they are, the film being as incomprehensible as it is on first viewing.
I'm fully bracing for reality to kick in and for the score to drop hard, any day now.
Could it be the staggered release helping? Maybe the initial mixed reviews lowered the later-reviewer's expectations enough to where they were pleasantly surprised?

Stuckmann thought this was far more complex than Inception, but he ended up not caring about any of the characters
