Film noirs like Following and Memento tend to have bad endings so it won't come as a surprise, whereas spy movies and thrillers like Bond films, Hitchcock movies tend to have good ending.A Borges man wrote: ↑May 25th, 2020, 12:05 amIS that why the ending always induces my tears? Iove the ending of interstellar. I mean I don't think watching your child prepare to die is a very happy ending? I dunno. But lets say it is.
Following, memento, insomnia, and Dark Knight have quite the dark, down beat endings. So I don't think Nolan has a problem going dark.
The prestige, and Dunkirk have ambigious endings...am I the only one who reads those endings as being kind of hopeless? So the only happy endings are Batman begins, Dark kight Rises, Inception? (depends on how you look at it), and Interstellar...so less than half of his filmography has happy endings.
Inception is certainly a good ending if you understood the emotional motivation, and not be obsessed with the sci-fi aspects of it.
I don't remember Dunkirk that well because it is my least favourite movie - but I am pretty sure it has a good ending?
Dark Knight has a kind of bad ending simply because they were planning for a sequel.
I think Nolan will go for a vague and philosophical ending this time round for Tenet. I doubt he is planning for a sequel for a original screenplay. I hope he makes his ending more subtle, and not like Interstellar where an elaborate and almost tawdry happy ending is right in front of you.
Let me clarify. I'm not saying the endings are failed or not emotional, I just wished he'd have more balls sometimes and go for the least expected option.A Borges man wrote: ↑May 25th, 2020, 12:05 amIS that why the ending always induces my tears? Without having read Uno's potential spoiler, how plausible is it? Judging by a few of the responses, I'm guessing I probably shouldn't click if it's so plausible that it's most likely true...
I would say I agree 100%
I was responding to notion of "dark" endings. Like if we define a happy ending as a hero/protagonist getting what they want, or surviving. My break down holds. I wasn't necessarily commenting on good/bad or affective. Just the idea of a happy ending or not.Flutterby wrote: ↑May 25th, 2020, 12:18 amLet me clarify. These kinds of endings always remind me now matter how much freedom a director has, he'll still be constricted by the industry.
