Deadline is now reporting San Diego County is about to shut down movie theaters due to rising infections. This sucks
Is it related to theaters, do you think?
I certainly hope not, as I watched Tenet in a San Diego theater. I was double-masked up though, one of which was an N95.

I think the rising infections in SD could be tied to lack of mask-wearing. I drove to SD from LA for Tenet, and figured I'd make a day trip out of it. Decided to swing by a beach after the movie, and it was fairly crowded, with a lot of people not wearing masks. Even though it was outdoors, I felt kind of uncomfortable with so many people around. I honestly felt more at risk at the beach than inside of the theater lol

Walking among a crowd during a pandemic? "Cowboy shit"

Alright I went to the Irvine Spectrum IMAX screening of Tenet

My thoughts:
-The Regal looks really nice, I haven't gone there since Endgame IMAX showing.

-IMAX theater definitely felt a bit smaller, the seats were comfy, screen looks pretty much the same. Just a heads up, bought my tickets on Fandango, and I thought I was getting middle seats because of the seat arrangements but for some reason they are only selling the right half side of the theater. Middle seat was #15 and I got #7 which was on the far right (luckily after the movie started I just ended up moving a little more towards the center since the line was almost empty  )

-There were <12 people, social distance was fine but half of them weren't wearing mask to my dismay

-Theater temp was ok, so wearing 2 mask didn't kill me, but given how long the movie was, It was definitely getting harder to breath (That's on me for trying not to breath a lot too :?)

-Honestly the 1.90:1 ratio was pretty great and sharp. Plus it made the switching of ratios less noticeable imo (Halfway through the film and I thought the madlad filmed the whole thing in IMAX  ).

-Audio. Yep this one is a bit of a mixbag. Soundtrack, Sound design and editing was amazing (Oscar worthy for sure) but it just was a bit too loud. The mixing is interesting. I probably heard 60-70% of the dialogue, I pretty much could not hear the dialogue in scenes where characters have things in their mouths like masks while the soundtrack is kicking in the background. But I "understood" the bare minimum of the film so it doesn't bother me all that much.

-Nolan did it again, the movie itself was great and very eye catching. Under different circumstance I would have seen it again tomorrow. I'm probably just going to wait for VOD or UHD BD release to watch it multiple times and properly understand the film but as of now it's a solid 8/10, maybe higher once I figure out some of the finer details

-Worth the risk? Look, I loved the movie but I hate maskless people in delicate environments like that one (Its Orange county so I get it). Luckily there weren't that many people and it was DEAD Quiet (which is how I like it). I say if you can find an almost empty screening, go for it.

Anyways, someone check on me in 2 weeks

I can speak from experience of being at the AMC Metreon in San Francisco (76' tall screen) and trying to take pictures/video of it are two way different things. Pictures don't do the thing justice, even Irvine's 65' screen I can imagine.

So as impressed as you are looking at a photo, man... wait till you see one of these behemoths in person.

In SF, the back row gets a little projector room overhang in view of your eyes (I forget if it cuts off screen) plus some handicap seating, and the second row from the back may still be a little less enveloping... but the third row from the back is the absolute best view, and the fourth row from the top has just slightly lesser views but perhaps added immersion for IMAX shots. So if you ever go to one of these, you really want one of these seats if you can get the ultimate experience:

But yeah dude, as much as you love that picture, you really gotta check out one of these things in person. The one in SF is the biggest you can get, and they still get the film print.

That was more "food for thought" than anything else, haha. And no probs!

I saw the film in Liemax(since no 70mm film around me) with huge 2x projector screen, biggest screen in my state, and I saw the film at an AMC theater with Dolby Cinema Experience.

The Dolby Cinema was above and beyond the Imax. The picture was much more clear, and had better contrast. It was much cheaper too.

Best theater experience I ever had. Highly highly recommend Dolby.

WB/Weibo held a private screening for Nolan fans in China at WB. Maybe we could convince IMAX to do the same in Los Angeles at IMAX HQ which is Dual Laser lol. They just did one for bloggers, so why not Nolan Fans? david keighley cares about the fans!
