i think a lot of us missed the last 200 pages of us being pretty sure this wasn’t going earn that much money

so i’m not sure what exactly changed now that everyone is acting so disappointed
Exactly. I don’t know what is surprising about this and that’s why I say it feels over dramatic.

Maybe they need to watch Tenet again. :P

Some of you reaaaly need to relax 8-)

WB definitely didn't put out a movie in the middle of a global pandemic to make a huge profit. Their goal is of course to break even but even if that's not gonna happen their relation to Nolan won't change one percent. And if they can help to save some cinemas along the way that's another big plus.
Some of you are talking about the BO numbers like it's the summer of 2019

Of course we have to look at cinemas on the whole after Covid is in control. Maybe the situation in 2023 isn't at all comparable to let's say 2019 but if it is they will happily throw 200mio at Nolan if he wants that budget.

Like I said in another thread: If WB doesn't want to cooperate in the future, any other major studio would give its right nut to distribute a Nolan film.
And we must not forget that Nolan might already have the financial resources to make a +100mio film without any studio money.

Let's all just be happy that we can see a batshit crazy (covid referenc right there) Nolan film in the middle of a pandemic and one that we can talk about at least until 2023 when the next one is likely to come out :gonf:
I agree.

And PS, it's the worst dialogue of his career. JDW gets searched at one point and he says "where I'm from you'd buy me dinner first." Yikes!
True! There needs to be a whole thread for this... And weirdly some of the trailer readings are better
"if I cant have you, no one will". Really? Couldnt change it just a bit?

Testicles in throats yadda yadda, straight from a Bond film

And where did the "lost my edge" part come from? Many lines on first viewing just dont flow with the conversation

All I have is a word...and a gesture. And Jdw is like..."okay..."

Tenet never was gonna open big, though most theater chains did think it was going to open bigger and have better word of mouth. The problem is like, I said couple of times, is that WB has to hold the date for Wonder Woman, now. If they push that back, then theaters have two whole months of just Tenet driving business, which it's not gonna do. Then who knows what Disney will due with Black Widow and Soul in Nov. they will likely move also.

Theaters will be screwed, then, and many will close back down again. It would be more expensive to be open with operating cost then what money a location will make from such limited audiences. This after the efforts of WB and Nolan lead many to spend alot of money getting theaters back into shape to open again with some new amenities to help protect from Covid-19. It would of been better to just stay closed and wait.

This movie made me laugh a couple of times, with some lines that sadly probably got looked over.

This line was not among them. It made me cringe.
"...worst dialogue of his career".

"Stay calm, you've been poisoned".

The line was “Easy fella! How about you buy me dinner first?”
And I found it very funny and so did the audience I watched the movie with.

I thought it was funny too, as did the person I saw the film with (my 50-year-old mom). The auditorium I was in was huge, so I have no idea what anyone else in the theater thought. I doubt most people are analyzing every line of dialogue though.

And they shouldn’t have spent $200M on it. I think this is the end of Nolan’s mega budget green light, unless he agrees to do a franchise movie with a guaranteed audience like James Bond, Batman, Star Wars, Marvel, etc. Dunkirk’s budget at $100M is the area WB should be targeting for his original movies.
Can you explain your reasoning for that? Seems like a bit of a reach to me...
