I am sorry to hear that. Here in the Netherlands the cases are dropping every day even with reopened cinemas, bars, schools and casinos. The goverment did very incredible job to flat the curve, we had even zero deaths past week. Movie theaters can receive more people in 1 room but with 1,5 meters distance. For anyone looking for 4k versions of nolan films, i just recomend you get the blu rays, even 1080p blu rays are superior to 4k streaming many times, compression in streaming services is still way off, and 4k hdr blu rays are the superior domestic format by a huge margin, plus with the blu rays you get the special features, its a no brainer for me honestly.

Are there optical drives for pc’s that can do that? 4K HDR titles on iTunes have among the lowest compression across all the streaming services I’ve encountered. Still, 4K blu-ray is far superior to anything streaming. It’s the closest thing you can get to a DCP in your house.
Speaking of which, despite how good home theater options have gotten lately, the theatrical experience remains supreme, especially IMAX and Dolby Cinema. Yeah, you occasionally run into a few jerks who can’t behave in a theater and he costs are high and blah blah blah, you will never be able to replicate the experience in your home, unless of course you actually built a full size theater in your mansion. That being said, theaters can’t wait until 2021 to screen all the major films, they literally can’t pay rent for empty buildings while generating no revenue for that long. There are still a very good portion of people who will flock to theaters once they reopen to see Tenet or to relive classics on the big screen again. As long as reasonable precautionary measures are met by both staff and guests, the risk of catching COVID is just a drop in the bucket compared to all the other places you can catch COVID.

Don't make the assumption that you'll be able to rip discs to your computer, either. Every disc drive sold now has an update that doesn't allow you to bypass the data encryption. There are ways to roll back, but it's dangerous to enter some of the service menus you'll be entering where you can brick your drive or PC. If you're serious about looking to do this, PM me and I'll send you a list of drives that can roll back and bypass the encryption, and even though safer ways have been discovered it's still not an easy process.
Also, unless you are on an HDR monitor or have software that can downconvert from HDR-to-SDR, expect to get an extremely washed out look with your 4K discs.
So if I use enfitt's screencap frame as a comparison on the BD:
Here is what the beautiful 4K version should look like after an SDR downconversion (full-res version):
But here is what it may end up looking like on your computer (full-res version):
Now, I'm not trying to turn you away from getting one of these drives, but go ahead and look up a bunch of other ones if you'd like, and find an affordable one that will still do what you need it to do and what it can do for you.
And yes, please listen to what other people are saying about the iTunes digital copy. Just because it's 4K doesn't mean you'll get anywhere near what you'll get on the 4K disc, except the proper color timing and a constant aspect ratio.
Speaking of color timing, as you can tell, the Blu-ray is vastly different, and frankly is incredibly hideous in comparison. You won't see the issues as much in the IMAX shots, but in the 35mm shots it's clear as day. I'll give you another example shortly.
(and ugh, I'm re-realizing this is in the Box Office Discussion section again, but this has to do with the talk about how VOD is not a proper substitute for any other sort of experience that can absolutely thwart it, be it theater or home video)

I plan on building a whole new PC this year so I’ll have to get a new drive anyways, I guess I’m not as concerned about downloading the movies themselves, just want to be able to play them, so if the drive can at least read them in really good quality I’m fine with that, but feel free to give me any sort of recommendations!
