Casting a "true" movie star is meaningless nowadays. Just look at how many of those Marvel stars can't carry a movie without Marvel. Leo DiCaprio is probably the only movie star left.Sky007 wrote: ↑September 19th, 2020, 3:23 pmthis movie will end up doing fine. Internationally it'll have legs. a bummer about U.S. but it'll get some needed cash from those big, unopened markets. ironically, this movie will have its life on HBO Max and grow in reputation there.
as for Nolan, laughable to assume he won't be able to do what he wants. as mentioned, the industry in general will probably tone down their budgets. the only stipulation i see being put on Nolan is having to cast a true movie star.
Tenet - Box Office Autopsy
Tenet is looking at a solid 21-23% drop from last week in the US. Total will be around $36-37million. If NY, SF and LA open in the next couple of weeks it could do respectable numbers domestically.
Internationally it should be around $210-215 after today.
Offical figures will be published by WB later today.

Reactions from Japanese users on Twitter look overwhelmingly positive with no complaints about sound, so that bodes well for its run there I reckon.

WW gross should be now at $251M.
I keep being somewhat impressed by how decently it's been holding in international markets. Word of mouth might not be as mixed as online reactions after all.

Any news when NY & California will open?
The drop is still very low. At least.Warner Bros. is reporting that the big-budget espionage pic earned $4.7 million domestically from 2,930 theaters in its third weekend for a North American total of $36.1 million. The studio insists that Tenet is far from over and anticipates a huge bump in ticket sales as more cinemas on both coasts are allowed to flip on the lights.
Internationally — where theaters are ahead of their U.S. counterparts in terms of reopenings — Tenet grossed another $25 million for a foreign tally of $214 million and a worldwide total of $250.1 million. That includes a pleasing China total of $60 million.
