I really hope it has a strong hold in the markets it opened to $50m last week. Hopefully can do $30m from those same locations this weekend?

B rating from CinemaScore audiences. Pretty low for Nolan.
China may just disappoint this time. Sigh.
Given how inaccessible the film is and how brazenly anti-intellectual half(?) of America seems to be since 2016, it makes sense, I guess lol
Now obviously that's not the only reason; as mentioned already, the catastrophic situation in America means that people are seeking comfort right now, not a challenge, so of course there's that as well, along with the fact that the film is light on character development, emotion, etc.
But nevertheless, it's a stark contrast to where I am (which is praised for its universally high standards of education, and general societal emphasis on education/intelligence above all else), where the film is being praised for its complicated plot and mechanics, despite people fully admitting that it is impossible to understand on first viewing.

tbh I'm a little bit worried about the box office in the next week, cannot be optimistic seeing the reviews in China.

‘Tenet’ Tops $20M In China, Crossing $100M Overseas Today – International Box Office

The films were in a close race for the No. 1 slot, but the Chinese war epic slightly edged Christopher Nolan’s time-bending thriller, by an estimated difference of about $1.3M. The Middle Kingdom cume on Tenet is estimated at RMB 143M ($21M and including previews), through Saturday per Maoyan. That portends a weekend at around $30M, lower than where some were seeing it ahead of the launch. However, as we’ve noted previously, The Eight Hundred was always going to be a factor, and Nolan’s films tend to leg out.
Tenet is carrying an 8.4 audience score on Maoyan and an 8 with Douban critics. It added an estimated $11.8M on Saturday for a 37% jump from Friday. It currently leads presales on Sunday, so could still eke out a No. 1 win for the weekend, but it may be tight.
