Given the economic situation, a VOD isn’t a terrible theory.

There might not be any IMAX screens left to show this on.

The experts from around the world say:

* It will take at least 18 months to produce a vaccine, probably more. Not seen any credible sources say it will be out in 2020.

* It will take a long time to achieve worldwide herd immunity - many, many months or even years.

* Based on the history of other pandemics and coronaviruses this might last for a long time, most likely well into 2021. Second waves are a real thing, and we have seen them in flu pandemics before.

Brave new world indeed.

If it were to be released without a theatrical run then I’d rather it goes straight to Blu-ray.

Disney has moved Mulan to the week after Tenet is supposed to release.

Then WB should stick to 17/7/2020 as far as they can manage. Problem is, if they continue with marketing as planned and spend the budget then have to pushback the film.

I say keep aiming for a July release. If theatres are still closed by then, release it as soon as they re-open. If they are worried about the economy being poor, extend the showings, especially if there isn't much competition. Either way, every movie studio has to expect substantially decreased profits due to the aftermath.

There are several different methods here at work: some July releases are pushed back to October, some are pushed back to December, and some are getting a one year delay. We can't really predict what WB has in mind for Tenet at the moment...

Possible issues with Tenet is they may not be able to finish post-production by July, and that they might not be able to produce and ship out a good number of Film prints, but we'll see.

I still can't believe that some people are suggesting a VOD release. Yes, many people would have no problem with that, but they definitely would rather delay it than have a VOD premiere.
