Dunkirk Awards Season Discussion Thread
Interstellar won visual effects a year after Gravity did. The Academy is more than willing to honor to films in the same genre in back to back years.okungnyo wrote:Dunkirk's chances of winning in the sound categories is probably hurt a bit by Hacksaw Ridge winning last year.
Being novel is part of the formula to winning an Oscar, and two consecutive war films is not novel.
So the Academy will have to take an exceptional liking to Dunkirk's sound mixing for it to win.
That's a good point.
Consider me wrong, then.

You are prepared to this knowing the nature of the film. Nothings beats off Mann's death/Endurance's explosion in Interstellar.Hustler wrote:I fucking jumped when

Poor Deakins. Would not surprise me if Hoyte swoops in and steals the statue. This opinion will probably be reinforced tonight when I see it in the proper 1.43 ratio with better projection quality than 2k LieMAX.
It's worth noting that a sequel has never won the Best Cinematography Oscar.
Best Director and Best Cinematography are the only awards I care about for this.
