Aren't there signs this will be more successful than Interstellar? Due to the lower budget, higher critical acclaim, and it making more than Interstellar opening weekend? Haven't really been keeping up but still.

Interstellar was much bigger overseas. Sci-fi with a lot of visual effects is an easier sale to make than WW2. But Interstellar also cost $65 million more on the production budget.

Dunkirk is on pace to finish with worldwide box office nearly 5 times higher than the production budget, whereas Interstellar's worldwide box office was 4.09 times higher than the production budget. Both very successful.

If Dunkirk performed similar to Intestellar in China (like it did in USA), the difference would be less than 100 million dollars though. It's still a big difference but very understandable considering the different genres.
