Christopher Nolan will ask his cameras to revive Operation Dynamo
It's been ten days since Patrice Vergriete announced the filming of an American blockbuster in June 2016 without saying more. According to our information, it is Christopher Nolan who gets stuck with a film inspired by the evacuation of Dunkirk in May-June 1940. It remains to know the key players.

The announcement made by the laconic Mayor of Dunkirk was that the city will be the place of the filming of an American blockbuster. Although the municipality is desired to confirm our information that Christopher Nolan will direct.

Patrice Vergriete promised "a world-famous director." This is the case with this amazing director who in his creations has dealt with the blockbuster productions of several hundred million dollars and is capable of handling sensitive issues such as memory (Memento) or dreams (Inception), to push the limits of humans in space (Interstellar), or plunge the audience into a dazzling thriller about the world of magic and illusion (The Prestige). His most well known work is the Batman films and now he became interested in History with a capital H.

Completely incognito during his recent visits to Dunkirk with his brother Jonathan, he absorbed the territory, its past and the consequences of the conflict. Reassured by the welcome given by the port and the city, he has been sufficiently filled to address, following a shooting authorization request.

We know a few things about the American big budget film to be shot in Dunkirk in the spring, even though the secret remains well guarded. The production company Peninsula Film has already contacted all the hotels in the city to accommodate the film's cast and crew.

The director has already been spotted scouting locations in France with his brother, Jonathan Nolan
Following in the footsteps of Steven Spielberg and Stanley Kubrick, Christopher Nolan is prepping a war movie about the WWII evacuation of Dunkirk, France that is expected to star Tom Hardy, Kenneth Branagh and Mark Rylance, TheWrap has learned.
Dunkirk’s mayor, Patrice Vergriete, said the city will play host to an “American super-production and a world-renowned director” in the spring. That director is none other than Nolan, whose next film is slated for released on July 21, 2017 by Warner Bros.
A representative for the studio did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Nolan has visited Dunkirk with his brother, Jonathan Nolan, to scout locations for the recreation of Operation Dynamo, a British military operation that saved the lives of 330,000 Allied soldiers who were surrounded by German forces.
Operation Dynamo took place in May and June of 1940, and Nolan plans to shoot his film from May 23 to July 1, according to local reports claiming that hotels have already been set aside to accommodate the production’s sizable crew.
Dunkirk has previously been depicted on the big screen in “Atonement” during a nearly six-minute tracking shot featuring James McAvoy on the beach.

So there we were in The Butchers Arms in Sonning Common, a fantastic pub that describes itself as ‘a local boozer that welcomes dogs and has bring-your-own-vinyl evenings just outside Henley, they’ve got a river don’t you know?, with Jane’s dad Edward and another fine Dunkirk veteran called George, whose wit is as clever and as quick as a wily poacher, to meet with a film researcher to talk about their experiences during the evacuation from the beaches of Dunkirk ahead of a forthcoming film. Introductions made we then spent an hour or so listening to someone called Chris and his researcher chatting to Edward and George on camera. After Dunkirk Edward ended up in North Africa whilst George returned to the European theatre where he was later captured having taken a short cut back to his division. It was actually most enlightening especially the way both of them avoided the finer details of the scenes on the beach and their actual escape. Dunkirk lasted from 27th May until 4th June with around 340,000 British and French troops being rescued. Chris’s researcher explained that although it was to be a screenplay they wanted to try and ensure that the portrayal of the Dunkirk Evacuation was as honestly and realistically portrayed as possible. To this end they were interviewing the few remaining veterans to get their stories and have enlisted the help the Association of Dunkirk Little Ships aided by their Commodore, Ian Gilbert. Each year they organise the Annual Veterans Cruise on the second Sunday in September between Hampton Court and Weybridge to which we get the honour of taking Edward. Afterwards we had a very interesting chat about Churchill’s ‘Fight them on the beaches’ speech given on the 4th May to the British people which they had listened to time and again and remains one of the cleverest and carefully composed speech ever given by a politician. Pleasantries exchanged we headed back, I dropped Edward off and headed to the Swan for a swifty. Our Pete called in and asked how the meeting had gone and what was it about. I explained that we had met someone called Chris Nolan whereupon he went completely blabber. “Dad, he is the director of loads of great stuff, like he is only the director of Batman Begins and Dark Knight!” Pete the Plank obliged by looking him up on his wipwap phone only to discover, to Pete’s now complete frustration that I had clearly not a clue, that the proposed film of Dunkirk was not only to be produced by Mr Nolan but would be directed by him and was going to star Tom Hardy, Mark Rylance and Kenneth Branagh. “Is Tom Hardy actually going to play Granddad?” spluttered Pete. I told him yes and made him buy me an ESB. Well the film is due for release on 21st July 2017 with filming set to start in May and Chris Nolan, even now I know who he is, was a pleasure to meet.
