What is "the dop's remit"?ArmandFancypants wrote:Blocking, staging, and sometimes framing are not the dop's remit
MyCocaine wrote:No it doesn't .
The framing, blocking and staging is flat and bland as ever. It's good movie though.
Having rich colours and outlandish scenery doesn't equal beautiful cinematography.
It still looked much better than the rest of Marvel movies. I'd say Doctor Strange looked good too (judging by the trailer).MyCocaine wrote:True.
Still nothing remarkable about the cinematography in Guardians.
Blocking and staging aren't the DP's remit, but a good one can make suggestions to improve it.ArmandFancypants wrote:Blocking, staging, and sometimes framing are not the dop's remit
True in the 70mm I went to (tiny theater, small screen; wtf?)Nicewatch wrote: -I’ve heard that the Blade Runner and Justice League trailers are attached to the 70mm prints, is that true?
"something like Fincher"Boyd wrote:Blocking and staging aren't the DP's remit, but a good one can make suggestions to improve it.ArmandFancypants wrote:Blocking, staging, and sometimes framing are not the dop's remit
Framing is a remit though, unless you're working with something like Fincher, but even then, it's the DP's job to make the best of it and avoid making it feel bland, unless the story requires otherwise.
The problem with the marvel films is that they mostly feel like tv-films shot in 2.39 aspect ratio. The lighting is pretty flat and so are the compositions. (Black Panther looked like a improvement).
Also, the fact that they (over)use greenscreen doesn't help as well.
You're Norwegian?Sanchez wrote:http://www.lemonde.fr/cinema/article/20 ... _3476.html
Haven't seen this anywhere. Apparently a French critic is furious about how Nolan depicts the evactuation, and is wondering where all the 120.000 French soldiers that also were evacuated are.
I don't know French at all, I just stumbled upon this article on a Norwegian news site.
Edit: Just saw this article in English: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article ... -film.html
Agree with you on Justice League.dormouse7 wrote:King of Prussia 70mm film IMAX showed trailers for Blade Runner, Justice League, and The Last Jedi.
My opinion - Blade Runner images were quite dark, did not really take advantage of the format, Justice League looks super fast and annoyingly fake/CGI to me (but I generally don't like superhero movies), and The Last Jedi looked gorgeous in 70mm IMAX film.
