I thought the MPAA set a limit for trailer lengths.
Oh, and no one's guessing 3 minutes because that's just not realistic.

Nope, MPAA rules are more concerned towards Movie ratings- G, PG, PG-13, R, NC-17 and it has nothing to do with the length(time)of the Trailer, except for fact that movie rating should be shown at the begining of trailer for certain period.
