I doubt this character will be as developed in comparison to Nolan's past films since this is very hard science fiction which means most of the emphasis will be put on the ideas (all relative to Nolan's past lead characters I'm not saying he'll be underdeveloped: Memento delves into an existential crisis, Inception explores Cobb's subconscious/memories, The Prestige follows two intertwined careers with very similar elements to Memento, and of course theres Batman). Two of Nolan's favorites (mine as well), 2001 and Blade Runner didn't have extremely fleshed out leads (when compared to most good dramas) yet they're some of the best films ever made because of their science fiction ideas/visuals and the somewhat limited characters ended up not being any problem at all. Interstellar will obviously have a lot of scientific explaining, speculation, and philosophizing to do and of course there will be that tremendous spectacle (these things can't happen in a film that is entirely centered on its characters i.e. Paul Thomas Anderson's films). So in other words I do not think this film will live and die on McConaughey's performance. I keep thinking Keir Dullea in 2001.
That's a great way of putting it. I had a feeling this film would be more about the philosophy or the ideas rather than the character. In that case, MM's casting may be appropriate, I think he plays one or two-dimensional characters really well, mostly because that's the level at which he operates (and I mean in the best of ways).
Even in the best of ways I don't think an actor would find that anymore than a backhanded compliment. It'd be like telling a quarterback that he is great at making 15 yard passes because that's the level at which he operates. Maybe you are right about the movie being plot centric though.

Remember rebecca Hall, Ledger, even hathawy and david bowe? What have they done before their collaboration with Nolan? Uh? By the the way I didn't see anything good for the guy, I didn't even see much of him. I'm just , overall, respecting every decision -any director- might make until I see how it will flip out on the big screen, then I have my opinion. That's all.

Erm...I think you'll find that David Bowie had in fact done rather a lot.

Heath Ledger: Brokeback Mountain, Monster's Ball, Candy, I'm Not There

Anne hathaway auditioned for the role of Catwoman. But she already had an Oscar nomination.

I don't know how rebecca was chosen for The Prestige.

david Bowie no needs introduction.

Last night I saw Killer Joe. I saw nothing special about the performance of Mathew.
I liked the movie and the performances of Gina Gershon and Juno Temple.

Well, oscar means nothing to me (seems odd, but it really doesn't). Hathaway, I only saw her really interesting "before TDKR" in lover & other drugs. Yes she had a lot of potential but not like this.
David bowie, I don't know what you mean with need no introduction because I meant him as actor not a composer or a singer (Maybe I missed something, Notify me). Ledger also had some potential but he wasn't a boxoffice-smasher celebrity... not even been considered 1st hollywood list actors at that moment. The point is, all whom I mentioned names' were shinny but not that sharp for an outstanding glimpse in cinema history in such movies like TDK, TDKR or The Prestige.
That's it.

I'm not talking about star potential, but talent, which is something I have not seen in MM.

If you don't know the performance of Ledger in Brokeback is considered one of the best of the last decade. In fact, one of the best in movie history. Of course people know him because of what he did as the Joker, but as Ennis he did a extraordinary work as he did in TDK.

I didn't see Ledger in BBM, Well, I give you that. What I tried to say,.. any "good actor" with "good potential" can be something if he had the right chance and most important the right papers. We'll see anyway, if these rumors even will turn out to be true or what. The only thing that is really positive in the whole thing is that Nolan didn't tried to stick with his old fellas "even If I wanted more of Hardy and pearce" but this variety is really the criteria of great minds.
