I really didn't like the intro with Commissioner Gordon and the line: ''it will be a very long time before someone inspires us the way he did.''
I also think it had a lot to do with Nolan wanting the switch to full IMAX to really get the juxtaposition it needs. It really made you feel the IMAX more didn't it? At the same time, I think his choice to play that was so deliberate and unexpected that it should be taken as a very, very significant choice.

It really does make you feel the Imax, like that first shot of the grass moving is just a-mazingg, or as amazing as you'd imagine tall grass to be.

But speaking of anti hero worship, there's this great quote by the American Socialist Eugene V. Debs that I think is apt:
I am not a Labor Leader; I do not want you to follow me or anyone else; if you are looking for a Moses to lead you out of this capitalist wilderness, you will stay right where you are. I would not lead you into the promised land if I could, because if I led you in, some one else would lead you out. You must use your heads as well as your hands, and get yourself out of your present condition; as it is now the capitalists use your heads and your hands.
I think that's the direction this movie is going, a rejection of heroes and symbols, but I don't know what this means for Batman. It's almost as if Nolan isn't making a batman trilogy, but rather using the batman mythos to tell his own story about morality and politics.

Love the last shot of the guy who Bane makes stay behind. He almost looks proud to be dying for Bane's cause. Not to mention the ridiculously epic chanting at that point. It seems like Bane will be loved by his followers, feared by his enemies. Unlike the Joker, who pretty much everyone hated.
