Alfred sits down at the cafe table and looks over and justs nods and not reveal Bruce and Selina.
Also I've heard people saying that
Alfred was just dreaming this and that Bruce is actually dead?
Dan
It NEEDS to end Bruce's story, this ending would not.
How could he just be dreaming, it not inception. (saying nolan wouldnt do that)
wouldnt the
funeral scene
tie up Bruce's story? Also pretty sure people
can dream - or even day dream- in films without it being Inception
;)

We need to know that Bruce ended up on top. A happy ending is the best thing for that. Nolan wouldnt include an ending being a dream if he just made Inception.

Suppose your right man, just playing devils advocate here :)

It did end on a high note and it ended the way it should have. The studio wouldnt
have the lead hero dead.

Without the shot of Bruce, we would have no way of knowing that Selina was with him, thus giving her character no completion to her story arc.

Folks, I'm all for interpreting films with different, quirky theories.
It's fun, even if the film doesn't support the theories.
But. . . .
The Dark Knight Rises is NOT Inception.

There is NOTHING in the final scenes even closely resembling the ever-spinning top to suggest any ambiguity.
Alfred doesn't see Bruce, look, back and not see him....
Alfred isn't dreaming, isn't hallucinating....
He's drinking Fernet-Branca, not injecting Meth.

Hey, I can theorize that the entire TDKR is nothing but a film of what Bruce Wayne sees during an Inception designed to make sure Bruce thinks he's saved Gotham and make sure he leaves town before Bane actually comes to destroy Gotham. It's fun.
But I wouldn't argue that the film is actually doing that.

Your last theory...I imagine Nolan actually thinking it while writing and telling his brother "Baawww!!!!Bawwww!!!Bawwww!!".

Ok maybe using the term 'dreaming' on this forum wasnt the best idea. I meant to imply that if he wasnt thinking about his fantasy then you would think that Alfred would have had more of a
reaction to seeing Bruce alive.

Alfred did say that
in his yearly visit, when he thinks of seeing him, that they would just nod to each other. This was during the time when Alfred too thought Bruce was dead.

Bruce hallucinated Ras. Why can't Alfred hallucinate Bruce?

Alfred wasn't in hell with a lot of pain in a prison with no hope waiting to die.
