Bane : Awkward.....
Well, it did get kind of awkward after the whole speech about innocence and revenge when she presses the trigger and

Talia: .........
Bane: ......
Batman ....... well that knife was too slow!

But what really makes up for that awkwardness, is the look Talia gives after she realizes the bomb didn't go off. Marion Cotillard is able to give these stares that to me are truly incredible. She did the same in Inception after she yells at Cobb..

"BECAUSE YOU DON'T KNOW YOU'RE DREAMING!"
I don't remember it being it that awkward. In fact I like the way she very confidently hits the trigger and her reaction is perfect. After that they cut to Gordin and directly back to Batman.
If she plays cranium she gives good brainium.

I think she loved him like a brother (after all, she said, "Good-bye, my friend" not, "Good-bye, my love.") but I had an inkling that Bane perhaps felt something a bit more for her over time. The tenderness that Talia displayed while putting Bane's mask back together was awesomely done and showed her love for him. I got a real strong sense that over the years they had both taken care of each other. Someone in the Bane thread made a great point about the scene when Gordon is brought to Bane and we see Bane crouched down, tending to something at the start of the scene. He was tending a fire. If you remember the love scene between her and Bruce, you'll remember Talia talking about when "they" had a fire and how rich they felt when they did (can't remember the exact words). A very subtle yet strong image of their relationship back in their prison days.

I don't think she used Bane. I think she and Bane both wanted the same thing--to destroy Gotham, and both were ready to pay whatever price. Notice Bane didn't try to stop her when she left him at the end. "The plan" was still the most important thing to both of them, even more so than the love they shared.

And as a woman I must protest the use of "bitch" in the above quote. Any strong woman is called a "bitch" while a man with the same bent of mind, etc. is considered awesome. Just sexist crap, IMO.

The word "bitch" is in context here.
He really looks surprised when Talia leave without him. Just see his eyes... he is an betrayed man.
And this is a theme that Nolan explored in Memento too. Of course.... maybe I'm wrong.

I didn't see a sense of betrayal at all. If Bane felt betrayed, he's not the kind of dude who would say nothing. He's an eloquent man. I'm sure the two of them would have previously discussed all possible scenarios/outcomes and been prepared for any one of them. If anything, I saw resigned regret in Bane's eyes...regret that things had not quite gone the way he had hoped and regret that he knew he would never see Talia again.

I don't think he felt betrayed at all, more slightly sad/nostalgic that this was probably going to be the last time he would see Talia.

But I do agree with what you said about her not using Bane. I'm pretty sure she cared for him too, as you can tell as she recounts their story in a tender way.

Of course they wanted the same thing, but Bane wants it, cuz this is what Talia wants ... and yes, he didn't try to stop her, because he loves her ... because his feelings makes him weak. And she betrayed his feelings... Because she didn't love him the same way. Bane is just a friend for her. He is her savior.

Similar themes:
unshared love: Bruce - Rachel (TDK)

woman used a man: Natalie - Leonard (Memento)

"The lie" and "wishful thinking" are themes that get a key role in Nolan movies too.

But...

A whole bunch of random stuff...starting with:

Some quotes! Probably not 100% perfect, but it's what I've gathered from various parts of the web... :o
Image Image

Miranda Tate/Talia

“You have to invest if you want to restore balance to the world.”

“Suffering builds character.”

“Do what is necessary.”

“[Bane] is not the child of Ra's al Ghul. I am.”

“[Bane is] my friend, my protector.”

“[My father] excommunicated Bane from the League of Shadows. His only crime was that he loved me.”

Ra's al Ghul

“Every time a civilization reaches the pinnacle of its decadence, we return to restore
the balance.” (Batman Begins)

“There are many forms of immortality.” (The Dark Knight Rises - Vision)

“An heir to ensure that the League of Shadows fulfills its duty to restore balance to civilization.” (The Dark Knight Rises – Vision)
Modern Talia in the comics (AKA Grant Morrison era)

Image

Batman Inc. #2 (focused on his Talia origin story which was timed for release in June about a month before the film)

I like that Talia is the only "unknown" mainline Batman villain they got around to using since Batman Begins with Ra's and Scarecrow. And a lot of the little details that went into her character were great. From becoming Wayne Enterprises CEO to sleeping with Bruce to having a part-Chinese actress portray her mother. Some of the outfits were a bit resembling as well.
Though I wish both she and Bale had more to do
...she has no interaction with Batman at all until the reveal, unlike Selina (or Rachel) who interacts with both from about the beginning (or when Batman was created by Bruce in the case of Rachel).

Drew parallels to the 'we started a fire' man from the start. He knew his job was complete.
