John Blake reveals his name is Robin may seem pointless to some but it does serve as a sign for those who have not seen the subtle messages given throughout the film about John Blake becoming the next Batman type figure. We see Blake becoming his own hero and re entering the journey that Bruce has done before in Batman Begins. He had his moment of despair when his father was gunned down in his past. His motivating factor led him to become a cop and meet Gordon. The reference is subtle when Blake meets Gorgon on the roof of MCU like Batman has done many times before. The other slight references also include Blake renouncing his job as a Gotham City Police detective because of their unability to do what is right for the city and do what batman has done with efficency and prowes. At the end of the film we see Blake dicovering the batcave which was a nearly shot for shot remake of Bruce's discoveration in Batman Begins. Also we see Batman conditioning Blake to take up the cape and cowl by reccomending wearing a mask to fight criminals. The Robin aspect to the film seemed to be a usless attemp at referencing the source matiral but was a plain sign for the audience which said (Blake may become the next Batman or Robin). Nolan has said he will not do another Batman movie many times and will not but this set up for a spinoff may still be the future for bat-fans.
LOL - there won't be any spin-off based on this reality, not a chance. And you forgot the sticky bomb scene: Five seconds then throw, loved it.

Nolan when interviewed on the BBC Radio Five movie show talked about Batman's ultimate sacrifice at the end of this movie, and it makes no sense that the character could have escaped the blast. I think they should have ended there with the blast and maybe a cut to Bruce Wayne's grave and then one of the Batman statue. However the scene where Alfred sees Bruce in the Italian cafe is explained earlier in the film when Alfred tells Bruce he often sits in that cafe and imagines him there. I've a feeling the two little scenes - one with the autopilot and the other with Alfred may have been tacked on by studio interference. However another point is that the Lazarus Pit was also spoken about in the film so resurrection seems something of a theme buried within the subtext.

I loved the film, but thought it was a little long and I don't think Bane was a worthy character.I think The Dark Knight remains Nolan's best Batman movie

The point of Batman is not to remain as one person, it is a symbol that can never die. Bruce may have moved on but we have the man that took up his mantle.
