I've been using the ok Azden 50 mic, which costs like 40 bucks. Okay sound, but not professional. For my feature production I need professional sound. Which is the best shotgun mic: the RODE NTG-3, the Sennheiser MKH50 (used for Social Network) or 418? Or are there others I haven't heard of?

Thanks!

Your parents would pay $1,200 for a microphone.

to be honest they probably used something like 50 different mics.

Yeah, but I know for sure that for the courtroom scenes they used the MKH 50 as the sole mic.

I saw this 6 ft mono-pod on this great sale, so I picked it up... then realized that it would make a damn good boom pole, so I attached my NTG-2 to the end and spared myself a rip-off price for an actual boom pole.
