He should still do that porn star/mob flick.

In all seriousness, he needs to work with a co-writer. Either Jonathan or somebody else
Yeah, bring back the genius of David S. Goyer....

I think Christopher Nolan's next film should be from the Fantasy genre. To me, he would be great at creating a film based on the 1998 Nintendo 64 game The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.
For a long time I’ve thought that if he had to return to franchise movies, the Zelda series would be a huge opportunity, and now that his latest original blockbuster has had so much headwinds against it, it’s all the more likely he would do something like this:

- emphasis on time, (Link is the hero of time- self insert for Nolan)

- huge massive scale, movie screen as portal to another world

- shooting locations all around the world.

- emphasize animatronics, real locations, eschew green screen as much as possible.

- a big budget between WB, Syncopy, and Nintendo would be easier to acquire than a new original story.

- he’s never tried an out and out fantasy film, so he could bring a new realism to the genre.

- There’s never been a VG based live action film that was seen as a proper film in its own right. This could be a spiritual cousin to Fellowship of the Ring.

- Fionn Whitehead as young Link, Christian Bale as old Link, Saoirse Ronan as Princess Zelda, Debicki as Impa, etc. Actors and actresses could be cast from the world over.

- huge lore to work from. His brother Jonah (a huge VG fan) could help with the script.

- Nintendo wants to get into the movie business but is very protective of their IP’s. Who better to entrust their cherished baby to? It would be a powerhouse team up.

- if it’s a smash success, he can make more Dunkirks and Prestige’s.

- triune nature of the story (Link, Zelda, Ganondorf.)

- Link can have very little dialogue as he journeys and fights through Hyrule- a very simple timeless story. First person POV for the audience dropped right into the action.

- Massive sets of dungeons and puzzles brought to life on screen.

- Hans Zimmer can return and build off of huge bank of Zelda scores.

- world wide box office potential is immense.

Considering his movies are usually presented in the material world, I doubt he will ever make a fantasy movie. That genre requires things in the filmmaking that Nolan doesn't like to use: CGI being the obvious one. Also, he doesn't do aliens, I don't think he'll do creatures. He is an old-fashioned filmmaker playing with new toys.
That's interesting. I didn't know that Nolan doesn't do aliens, but one can only hope that he chooses to operate outside of his usual metaphysical realm of storytelling. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time gives him an opportunity to build a plot around his favorite theme: time, while simultaneously directing a movie based on a game that has never been made into a live-action film. :D

Yes, yes, yes! Those are pretty much my sentiments, too! You've made some awesome points there, William Blake!

A romantic comedy set during the coronavirus, starring John David Washington and Elizabeth Debicki. They wear masks the entire time and it's shot entirely on IMAX. Lol.

Seriously though, I would love to see these two together again. They didn't get enough screentime together in Tenet. I'd also love to see Debicki lead a Nolan film, but alas she seems to be stuck in supporting roles despite being a fantastic actress.

I mean if there was ever a thing Nolan should probably get around to doing, it's having a female lead. Debicki could be that lead.

I have said this before and I'll say it again:

Everything about this game screams his style (according to me). Imagine Daniel Day-Lewis as Andrew Ryan
Even though he's retired

I actually completely agree with you. Typically video game/anime suggestions get destroyed here. But it's time to start embracing how popular they could be globally, remember a Marvel universe of movies would have been thought of as a complete joke 20 years ago. Just like no one gave a reboot of Batman a chance before Batman begins came into our lives.

I think Zelda could make an outstanding 3-5 movies in a world with Lord of the Rings scale meets Intrestellars....dreaminess? (Don't know what word I'm looking for.

I've always said I'd love a 7 movie Dragonball Z series with a real budget. None can deny its global popularity with, quite frankly a story with massive emotional depth. I imagine a first half of the movie on planet Vegeta much like the krypton opening of man of steel. Just outstanding to see in my opinion.

How about we stay away from adaptations of popular IPs...we already have Zelda and DragonBall

Recently watching TDK got me wanting another crime heist film with the usual Nolan twists.

Enough with 'time bending' action movie again for your next project.. Do Bond film instead
Adaptation from a book or novel should be okay.. I miss Insomnia - The Prestige kind movie
