It's enough to point out that The Dark Knight is for me the best film of the 2000s while Interstellar is the best one of 2010's. That's two best films of each decade and his other films are mostly either great or really good.
It's so interesting how varied the response, even among his biggest fans. For me I'd say Memento is best of the 2000's and Inception is hands down the best film of the 2010's. (coincidentally both of these being at the very beginning of their respective decades but yet still holding off all other challengers imo)

With a lot of the criticisms around TENET (sound mix, lack of character development, etc) how many other NolanFans members still feel that Nolan is the best director of our time? I mean I always thought it was pretty obvious that he stands above the rest, but now that I'm seeing a lot more criticisms from even his biggest fans or at least general agreement with the critics like yeah Nolan struggles with that, he's never done this well, he needs to get a handle on this, etc it is forcing me to reconsider if perhaps his direction and overall films are more flawed than I thought...
Him being my favorite director working today doesn't make him the greatest director of all time lol
He's made 11 films and they all range from very good to incredible. That's pretty impressive and almost no other filmmaker working rn has that track record.
It's really not that deep.

I didn't say of ALL time...that distinction belongs to Hitchcock
But I think a very good argument could be made for the last 20 years/2 decades.

For me, ranking directors like that (or any other type of artist) is problematic, there’s no empiric way to assert that one or the other is actually THE best, you can tell that some are better than others, but form there you can only really say wich ones you like most.

This stuff just keeps rolling in. The shitpile heap is getting larger and larger. After the ongoing online vitriol pointed in Nolan's direction; maybe he should wait a while before making another movie. I can't really think of a precedent for a director being lambasted for everything they say. The public opinion or at least the online nerd apparatus has completely turned on him.

i feel whatever happens with this WB HBO max thing will be key to what and when Chris decides to do whatever he decides to do next, im not going to lie, im a bit anxious about this whole thing.
