I think he's just quoting the film but I do wonder just how meta it is. I mean, it's certainly his manifesto but the last time I watched it I felt like almost everything in it has some meta element to it. Angier's final monologue feels prophetic.

Nolan speaks directly to the audience numerous times during the film. Angier's final monologue being the most obvious. Also, throughout the film he shows the audience how the trick is done. But of course we weren't really looking. The Prestige is genius and pure meta.
