Completely agree with him. That's one of my main issue with Nolan.

Well, I think the puzzle piece he's missing is if the filmmaker finds creating multiple distinct experiences a valid expression of their vision and craft.

Some may find Dunkirk plays better more "claustrophobic" in 70mm than the epic vistas of 1.43, for instance, and neither is more inherently valid than the other. It's a question of how comprehensive and intentioned each version is.
